Sonic Youth spent this past summer on the road kicking off their tour at
the now closed legendary club CBGBs in New York City and continuing on a
headlining tour of the United States. They made a stop at the Bonnaroo
Arts & Music festival in Tennessee before opening for Pearl Jam on some
of their west coast dates. A stint at Lollapalooza followed and then it
was more club dates followed by two sold out performances at McClaren
Pool in Brooklyn with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Sonic Youth will head to
Europe for a string of dates later this year starting with The Nightmare
Before Christmas version of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival which
will be curated by Thurston. The Festival runs December 8-10 and takes
place at a new location in Somerset, England. For international tour
dates visit www.sonicyouth.com
Earlier this year saw the reissue of three of the most daring,
innovative and compelling soundvisions in modern music--Sonic Youth's
landmark 1982 debut album, its legendary twisted pop opus under the
pseudonym Ciccone Youth and band member Thurston Moore's sole solo
album. All remastered, Sonic Youth,. The Whitey Album and Moore's Psychic
Hearts were reissued by Geffen/UMe March 14, 2006.

Andre Afram Asmar to play Trilogy Q06
Andre Afram Asmar will be performing for all three days of the Trilogy Qualifier '06 at the National Orange Show in San Bernadino, CA. Also on this huge bill are Z-Trip, Mike Jones, Barrington Levy, E-40, Jim Carroll, the Shapeshifters, and many more.
10/20 - Main Stage, 4pm
10/21 - In the Dj Dome
10/22 - Main Stage, 5pm
Andre's main stage set will feature a live backing band performing songs from racetothebottom. In the Dj Dome, Andre will be performing a live dub session with an added percussion section.
Andre Afram Asmar Bio:
Andre Afram Asmar takes an approach far different then that of most electronic music producers. With equal part influences from hip-hop, dub, and world music, Asmar most often builds around live instrumentation, utilizing samples and effects as accents to the acoustics, ethnic percussion, and live vocals found in his work. Whether working with underground emcee Circus (the Shapeshifters), dub pioneer Scientist, or any of a host of instrumentalists, percussionists, and vocalists that can be found nightly at his Los Angeles recording compound, Asmar finds a way to twist the end result in to a product that is uniquely his own.

Efterklang mini album on the way
Efterklang have finished recording a mini album, entitled Under Giant Trees, scheduled in for a January 2007 release. The mini album lasts 30 minutes featuring 5 new songs, none of which will be included on their second album. Not content with just this, Efterklang are working on the second full length, and we’re hoping to release this in late summer 2007...

volcano! updates
volcano! a cappella à Paris
Well sort of. volcano! proved their true worth as a rock band with two impromptu performances in Paris during their European tour this summer. Captured on video and posted on the excellent Blogotheque website, the label only just unearthed this extraordinary rendition of 'La Lluvia' (from the album Beautiful Seizure), and they felt we needed to share it with you.
The other video is an ad-libbed number, thought to be a musical match report on the France v Togo World Cup game. You can find the clips HERE...

Colleen updates
Colleen’s latest venture, Colleen Et Les Boîtes À Musique, hit the shops next October 10th.
“It seemed like a dream opportunity to explore further the miniature continent of sound that music boxes in all their variety generate” says Colleen’s Cécile Schott in response to the carte blanche handed to her by national radio station France Culture’s Atelier De Création Radiophonique to record music for a special broadcast.
The commission would have remained just that, but Schott was so pleased with the results she decided to give the nod for the recordings to be released on this 38-minute EP, under a temporarily revised artist name.
No stranger to the use of music boxes in her recordings and live performance, the consciously limited palette yields extraordinary dividends; this is arguably the most intimate and wonderfully melodic release of her career to date. Composed entirely using music boxes (but for one track), the pieces use everything from miniature boxes hidden in 1940s birthday cards to large Victorian boxes. Not content with the orthodox sounds produced by the boxes, Schott hijacked them, playing them with her fingers or with mallets on the comb. She re-sampled and affected pitch and delay in a quest to produce unique sounds and melodies.
Utilising the natural loop in each box, the different boxes move in and out of time, evoking memories of childhood. This playful nature ebbs and flows throughout the EP like a stream unsure of its chosen path. Sounds reminiscent of harps (‘What Is A Componium? Part 2’), xylophones and Fender Rhodes (‘Your Heart Is So Loud’), and electronics (‘Calypso In A Box’) appear and then disappear on the landscape, fooling the listener into believing that the noises emanate from more than one type of instrument.
This 14-track EP will provide refreshing new material for those anticipating Colleen’s third long player, scheduled for release in early 2007. The material is all new with the exception of the final track, ‘I’ll Read You A Story’, which can also be found on 2005’s The Golden Morning Breaks.
“Really, really beautiful”
Stuart Maconie, Freak Zone, 6 Music
“Surprisingly broad-ranging and uniformly engrossing”
Independent Music Magazine
“A remarkable project”
The Guardian
As you may already know if you subscribe to our MySpace blog, Colleen has finally got her own official MySpace page! There was a fan page on Myspace (which made no mention of the fact that it was unofficial, and that no messages would reach Cecile), so if you were signed up to that you may wish to visit the new page and get yourself added. The new page will feature regular news and updates.
Colleen is touring Japan in October/November this year. Japanese label Windbell will release a special 2CD package to coincide with the tour, including Colleen's 2005 album The Golden Morning Breaks as well as the new Colleen Et Les Boites a Musique EP. The Japanese 2CD will not include any new music, but will feature new packaging.

My Morning Jacket 4LP extremely limited box-set
My Morning Jacket's 2005 US tour was a blur of sold-out shows and riveting performances and Badman has the goods to prove it. The label has just completed work on Okonokos, a 4xLP box-set, due mid-November, documenting one of the band's finest performances of the tour. This is an extremely limited deluxe package featuring high-quality virgin vinyl, a closed-lid box and even a few bonus tracks not available elsewhere.

Ba da bing! Records announcement
In January Ba-Da-Bing! releases the debut album by Essie Jain, a New York ex-pat from London and trained opera singer whose sparse, morose songs are reminiscent of Desertshore-era Nico.
In the Spring, the label introduces the first album by Benjamin Wetherill, a Leeds, UK-based singer-songwriter whose folk stylings hark back to John Jacob Niles and Jackson C. Frank.

Jason Forrest Band Live Debut in Germany/info for US dates
From Jason Forrest:
HELLO!
I'm extremely happy too announce to you the world debut of my new live band! "The Jason Forrest Band " (temporary name) will see its first ever concert NEXT SUNDAY- 17. September 2006, starting at 9pm sharp! It's a party for the 10th Anniversary of my booking agent and good friends at Planet Rock. But on top of this being a world-debut, it's also a very special collaboration with Austrian singer Gustav, who's been blazing a trail with her mixture of smart lyrics, gorgeous crooning and brilliant electronic glitch. Also DJing will be The Goldmunds, who are also awesome. Then did I say it's also the opening weekend for a new venue in town?
Ballhaus Naunynstraße
Naunynstraße 27
10997 Berlin
And it's in an 18th century fancy baroque room! So really, there's absolutely no reason you can miss this show! AH!
Ok, So we know what you're asking yourself, "What the hell does his live band sound like?" We're a power-rock trio, Ethan Shaffner on Guitar, Elisabeth King on Keys/organ and yours truly on laptop and… Vocals!!! We sound a bit like a cross between Beck and Deerhoof I think, or maybe like a cross between the Doors and Public Enemy. I don't know, that's not really so correct, but we're good, we bring the party, and we rock. What more could you want???
If you want to see us, and can't come on over to Berlin, we'll do a small USA tour before performing at the opening Halloween party at CMJ in NYC! I think it's at the Knit, and no idea who else plays, but you'd HAVE to come, as it'll be IN-SANE! Take a look at my website for gig dates-HERE. There's way more shows in EU after that too, so odds are we'll come to your town, or want to come to it! AH!
OK!
Here's that info again:
The Jason Forrest Band (Sonig, Cockrockdisco Berlin)
With Special guest-Gustav (Mosz, Wien), DJs The Goldmunds (Goldmund, Berlin)

WHY? Asked to tour with Yo La Tengo
It's been a busy year for WHY?. After releasing critically acclaimed Elephant Eyelash LP, two EPs, touring the entire United States twice on their own and once with Islands, the road calls again-- Why? have been asked to tour with Yo La Tengo this fall! Yo La Tengo is touring in support of their new record, I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass. WHY? have been busy this Summer writing new songs for their upcoming yet-to-be-titled follow up to Elephant Eyelash, which they’re shooting to have out on Anticon Records next Fall.
PRESS ON ELEPHANT EYELASH:
" “Gemini,” “Sanddollars” and “Yo Yo Bye Bye” are likely the three catchiest indie rock songs I’ve heard this year, and there are so many surprising twists in the melodies, time signatures, lyrics and production that I'll keep returning to these songs for months. Elephant Eyelash is a terrific rock record."
-DUSTED MAGAZINE
“We have found the soundtrack to your renaissance psychedelic and dirty, but kilted by bittersweet bent melodies and layers of harmony…Napoleon Dynomite ain’t got nothin’ on this.”
-FILTER
"An indie epic smeared with doubt and guilt that flows out of a forced smile...If this is any indication of the quality of WHY?'s upcoming LP, Elephant Eyelash; we could be in for a classic"
-UNDER THE RADAR
Yo La Tengo & WHY? Dates

Akron/Family news
From Young God Records:
The producer Hal Wilner recently put together a CD of sea chanties
for Anti Records, called Rogue's Gallery, with various big shot
singers and bands to accompany the Pirates of the Caribbean movie
(Johnny Depp is connected with this in some vague way I think).
Akron/ Family is backing band to a few people on this CD, and they
also do their own song on the CD.
Long story short: Akron/Family appeared Monday night august 28 as backing band for
Baby Gramps on the David Letterman TV show.
You can check out info on the Rogue's Gallery album HERE
Akron/family new album Meek Warrior is out October 3 and advance info

Black Neon story building
The Black Neon release's story is building quickly..
UK PRESS:::::::::::::::

An album in whihc an English psychedelic band decide they are going to play Krautrock. Even when they drop the synths for acoustic guitars they still sing about Ralph being in the German army. Odd and lovely.

A-zap Records update from MELT-BANANA
From MELT-BANANA:
Hello, MELT-BANANA here.
These days, at last it seems that the summer has come! but now almost the
end of August... We had too many typhoons in July. It is not the reason but
these days I read books a lot, like I am addicted. I read all night long
till I can not keep my eyes open. First I was about to read one book a day,
but I am not use to go to a library so that I go to second hand book store,
but it costed more than I thought, so I read the old ones that I already
read, again and again.
In the fall, I wonder if this reading addiction will get worse...
* This year, MELT-BANANA play a lot of shows in Japan!
It seems that we won't tour abroad, and instead of that, we play many shows
in Japan. In august we are planning to go to play in northern part of Japan,
which is called Tohoku-chihou, and in the fall, we have a plan to go to
Kyoto and Osaka, which is called Kansai-chihou, and after that, we may go to
the northern island of Japan, which is called Hokkaido, and of course many
shows in Tokyo too, about 2 shows in every month.
Shows in abroad will be next year.
MELT-BANANA live schedule:
08/23 Ebisu MILK - all night (Tokyo, JAPAN)
08/25 Yamagata Furankuroidoraito (Yamagata, JAPAN)
08/26 Sendai JUKEBOX (Miyagi, JAPAN)
08/27 Morioka Club CHANGE (Iwate, JAPAN)
09/02 Juso FANDANGO (Osaka, JAPAN)

Smooch Records updates
Lots of Smooch news to report!
The debut solo album from Andrew Douglas Rothbard is scheduled for release on Halloween. He has put three years into perfecting this record & it's well worth the wait. It's good folk music at the root but with layers of very trippy psychedelic sounds played backwards over it all. Many folks are fans of his song writing for years when Mr Rothbard fronted Pleasure Forever.
In November Jesus Let Me Down by Slim Cessna's Auto Club will be released as a proper album to stores, rather than being left out of print as a fan-club type release. The band & label agreed it was too good to be left out of print.
Galvanized Yankee by Munly will hopefully be available in Nov. or December. Like Blurry & Munly De Dar He, Munly's third album has been remastered by Bob Ferbrache.
Next year should be the most busy year for Smooch to date:
In January Introducing The Denver Gentlemen will (hopefully) be reissued. The Annik CD will finally be released in early 2007. Hopefully Ten Songs With No Music by Munly will be repressed early in the year as well. Bob Ferbrache is currently remastering Soul Merchants recordings from the original tapes, which will turn into a CD soon.
Another project the label is very excited to be part of is a CD compilation called Local Anesthetic. Local Anesthetic was the name of the label that current owner of Wax Trax (the record store in Denver, not the label in Chicago), Duane Davis, ran in the early 80s. The goal of the compilation will be to contain all of the singles released by Local Anesthetic as well as recordings from other old Denver/Boulder punk bands circa 77-83. So far most of the bands have excitedly given their seal of approval. Duane Davis is writing the liner notes & the CD will be packaged with all sorts of fun photos. The CD is also being released in honor of the 30 year anniversary of Wax Trax, quite a feat in indie music retail! In conjuction with the anniversary--the label is hoping to schedule a concert with some of the bands reforming to play the show.
Last but not least, Munly & the Lee Lewis Harlots are going on another mini-tour. Here are the times & places:
09/09 - Fairplay, CO @ South Park Music Fest
09/14 - Kansas City, MO @ The Record Bar
09/15 - Minneapolis, MN @ Triple Rock Social Club
09/16 - Chicago, IL @ Soth Union Arts
10/28 - Denver, CO @ Oriental Theater

Scat Records upcoming releases
Scat has three titles in the on-deck circle, the first of which, Escape Velocity by Finn’s Motel, is a brilliant song cycle of unconventional power pop from Joe Thebeau, whose old band The Finns recently graced Numero Group label’s Yellow Pills Prefill comp. Some of the most imaginative, irresistible rock music ever, with songwriting prowess to rival the greats.
Next up would be Prisonshake’s Year of the Donk. A double-LP/CD featuring a different character on just about every track, but the good news is they all speak rock — albeit in a long-isolated dialect. Years of woodshedding in near total isolation will do that.
A collection of Styrenes’ tracks entitled All the Wrong People Are Dying rounds out the order. The CD compiles A Monster and the Devil along with other songs from the Mike Hudson (Pagans) era.

Gnomonsong Records upcoming releases
Power Woman has revealed the following: the next Gnomonsong release will now probably be The Bride Of Dynamite, the debut album from Danielle Stech Hom. Long time Vetiver conspirator Thom Monahan has been overdubbing and mixing tracks with the singer-songwriter, with Andy Cabic himself dropping in to assist. Expect this release in Autumn?
Cabic is also spending some time in the summer helping out on recording and overdubs and mixing a new Papercuts album with Jason Quever. This album will probably follow the Danielle Stech Homsy release.
Michael Hurley is working on tunes in Astoria, Oregon (not to mention a separate project with Ida recorded in fits, on the East Coast) and maybe this Fall Snoc delivers something to the label for as speedy delivery to the public as we can provide. Power Woman has also provided omens of further projects to be revealed at the correct moment.

Cavalcade of Lisa Germano press continues!
Spin Magazine August '06
By Mikael Wood
A rock violinist-for-hire whose Rolodex probably rivals Itzhak Perlman’s
(she’s played with John Mellencamp and David Bowie, among others), Lisa
Germano treats her circus-noir solo albums like opportunities to play the
freaky shit that her bandleader bosses would never go for. In the Maybe
World, her seventh album, is Germano’s wooziest and most ethereal yet, a
haunted swirl of shimmering strings, breathy vocals and warped-mirror piano.
Bust Magazine Aug./Sept. '06
by Michael Levine
As the Cat Power-gushing continues unabated, I’d like to raise the flag for
Lisa Germano – a close-to-the-edge chick, whose latest, in the maybe world,
offers a heady dose of dysfunctional brilliance. Atmosphere takes center
stage on all Germano releases. This one features her signature hazy,
antique-music-box, homemade quality, seasoned with sparkling keyboards and
chiming guitars. Not only is Miss G. a gifted multi-instrumentalist, but
she’s also a very personal songwriter. With her breathy half-sung,
half-spoken voice, she sings of emotional havoc and unattainable love.
Thanks heavens Michael Gira (of Swans) had the good sense to sign her. Not
too many labels would risk signing such a potent songstress.
Under The Radar Magazine Summer '06
By Gareth Maher
With this album, Lisa has opened up much more of herself than she ever has
on previous records. The twelve songs reveal a purity and honesty to not
only her songwriting, but her singing as well. On “Too Much Space” there is
an elegant dream-like ambience that her vocals perfectly express with a
measured dosage of timing and pitch. She has the type of voice that can
seduce, excite and entertain the listener. It also helps that she can rely
on the strength of deeply affecting songs like “Into Oblivion,” “Wire, “and
“Except for the Ghosts.” Whether you listen to this album from start to
finish or using shuffle, there is enchanting imagery to these songs that is
impossible to escape. You will want to play this album allover again as soon
as it finished.
Dream Magazine June '06
By George Parsons
Lisa Germano "In the Maybe World" (Young God) Lisa Germano writes
broken-hearted lullabies and sings them in a raspy warm whispery voice. She
is not afraid of the dark or the unsettling; but despite how scary her
songs may get, there is also something oddly comforting about them. Hope
and hopelessness waltz together in the twilight. Often the sweetly musical
sound of her songs belies their bleaker lyrical themes. These could be songs
for someone’s last day on Earth; or they could be songs for the last day of
the universe. A heartache big and sorrowful enough to swallow time itself. A
place where love and hate merge into an overwhelming and terrifying sort of
compassion and empathy. Lisa has never made a better album, and all of her
records are excellent. If you have never heard her before, start here. If
you are among the already converted, here is one more reason to rejoice

Current 93: 4 stars in Mojo & on the Cover of July issue of Wire magazine
Current 93: Black Ships Ate The Sky
4 stars
The true voice of the British Underground:
This is the one of the most accomplished and important albums by
an established act I've heard in a long time. A mesmerising cycle of songs
inspired by the record's opening - and recurring - lament
"And am I born to die". Black Ships Ate The Sky is more
spellbinding than Cave, matches late Cash in terms of starkness and
dignity and resonates with all the intensity of Peter Hammill.
Though they still grapple with death, belief and all the big
questions, Current 93 have long since abandoned the "electronic 666"
of their earliest wqork. Instead, a dark veil of strings encircle the
skipping, six-string mantras, a perfectly elegant platform for David
Tibet's astonishing conviction-filled disquisitions. Armageddon music
never sounded so exquisite.
Mark Paytress/MOJO July
Also, Current 93 will grace the cover of Wire magazine's July 2006 issue.

Feathers in Harp magazine
Feathers sounds like sunrise on a distant planet where Devendra Banhart holds court and everyone drinks copious amounts of electric Kool-Aid. The eight-piece psych folk ensemble is not only steeped in the same musical tea as Banhart, he co-owns the Gnomonsong label and Feathers even appears on his album Cripple Crow. Self-produced and recorded on an old 8-track in band member Kyle Thomas' Vermont bedroom, Feathers' debut succedds with obscure-sounding yet incredibly well structured songs that incorporate instruments from sitar to harp to clarinet to synth and lots of guitar - both acoustic and electric. The tribal drums, pseudo chanting and chirping birds, searing six string, strange melodies, whispers, washes of sound and more all work together to establish a clouded sense of mental detachment.
Aaron Kayce/Harp June

Hanne Hukkelberg on Pitchfork
Mon: 05-01-06
Hanne Hukkelberg: "Break My Body (live)"
genre: indie pop
Fail-safe cover method: Make a loud song quiet, or vice versa. This transmutation is especially effective when you're a Norwegian jazz singer and the song you're covering starts, "I'm a horny loser," as is the case with Hukkelberg's supper-club take on Pixies' "Break My Body". Slowly unspooling an arrangement that utilizes soft guitar, woodwinds, accordion, and brushed drums, Hukkelberg quarter-times Black Francis' frenetic lunacy, turning a screed into a seethe and teasing out the drama hidden in opaque phrases like "I'm a building jumper." The deliberate dynamics and bedroom-intimate vocals amplify the song's masochism way beyond the original's intent; in this take, at this speed, somebody really got hurt. [Rob Mitchum]

ALIAS & TARSIER - tour dates/updates
Alias & Tarsier release Brookland and Oaklyn May 23rd
Alias is in part known for his diverse range of collaborations with such
notables as Will Oldham, The Notwist, John Vanderslice, Lali Puna, Sage
Francis and Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) to name a few, so it was no
surprise when he shifted gears from his 2002 glitch-infused, instrumental
hiphop opus Muted and began working on a project with Brooklyn vocalist
Tarsier. The project began with one fluke email and remained faceless for
21 months as they recorded their respective musical roles (without first
meeting or even knowing the other). Alias returns to the hard drums and
boom-bap-infused atmospheres; Tarsier walks a beautiful line somewhere
between Björk and Beth Gibbons. All in all, the result is a powerful send-up
on behalf of their own honest music manifesto —a project dreamt up and made
human by a kindred pair 3000 miles apart.
In support of their new record (out May 23rd), Alias & Tarsier embark on
their debut West Coast Tour beginning May 27th in LA. Their ambitious live
presentation involves a four piece band armed with keyboards, acoustic
guitar, electric guitar, MPC, and live effects, promising a big, but warm
sound. This will likely be your only chance to check out Alias & Tarsier in
such intimate settings, don’t miss this opportunity! Dates below.
WHAT THE PRESS HAVE SAID ABOUT ALIAS & TARSIER’S DEBUT:
“Four Stars” “The mailman arrived like a godsend with this new release...Alias steps it
up fiercely” -URB Magazine
“Certified to defy expectation” -Pitchfork
“Truly progressive...A rare and magnificent album that gets to the core of
honest music ethos.” -Slug Magazine

Mi and L'au review from Pitchfork
Mi and L'au "Mi and L'au" (7.3)
[Young God; 2005]
from http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/m/mi-and-lau/mi-and-lau.shtml :
The backstory behind the charming debut album from European duo Mi and L'au
almost reads like something out of a Hans Christian Andersen folktale: two
restless, kindred spirits meet and fall in love in Paris, then move to a
cabin in the remote Finnish forest to write and record their deeply intimate
music in utter seclusion. And while for some albums such a quaint and
colorful narrative might seem an incidental talking point, in the case of Mi
and L'au it becomes an essential descriptive, as it's nearly impossible to
imagine this delicate, wintry music being made under any other circumstance.
Matching the couple's hushed vocals with acoustic guitars and minimal,
deceptively sophisticated arrangements, Mi and L'au create music that bears
only tangential relation to traditional folk, seeming instead to be their
own enchanted form of stripped-down, hermetic cabaret-pop. Sung entirely in
English, their songs do sound considerably less alien and otherworldly than
Finnish psych-folk counterparts like Islaja, Lau Nau, or others from the
extended Fonal label roster. The album's relative accessibility can perhaps
be traced to guest contributions from members of Akron/Family and Antony
compatriot Julia Kent which were overdubbed and mixed in Brooklyn. Yet
despite these outward flourishes, Mi and L'au carries the distinct air of a
work constructed almost entirely in private, seemingly intended for no
further audience than the snow-topped fir trees eavesdropping through the
windows.
Quietly plucked strings, woodwinds, and bells help give the opening
processional "They Marry" a gently off-kilter carnival sway, with Mi's
willowy vocals delivered in an ear-nibbling, Bardot-like whisper. "Fold your
hands around me," she repeatedly coos and the music promptly obliges,
enveloping her voice in cozy wisps of chimney-smoke. The chiming
"Philosopher" sounds as though it were composed in accordance with a vintage
grandfather clock. Here L'au joins Mi on effortless vocal harmonies before
taking the lead himself on the austere "I've Been Watching You", a track
whose lucid, plain-spoken lyricism fondly recalls Leonard Cohen's Songs From
a Room.
Given the inherent, rustic simplicity of the duo's equipment and production
(as well as Mi's rather limited vocal range) it is perhaps inevitable that
over the course of these 14 songs a certain placid uniformity begins to
afflict tracks like the uneventful "New Born Child" or the
calliope-winding-down "Merry Go Round". Much richer and more effective are
tracks like "Older" or "A Word in Your Belly", both of which feature
exquisite, understated string arrangements similar to those producer Joe
Boyd helped score for performers like Nick Drake or Vashti Bunyan. These
orchestrations reach an apex on the set-closing "Study", which pairs a
diffuse symphonic swell with what sounds like a mad scientist's bubbling
test tubes, as Mi softly wonders "What's to come of tomorrow'" And as their
captivating debut proves the great distances Mi and L'au are willing to go
for their music, the possible answers to this album's final question appear
to be virtually limitless.

Th' Faith Healers tour dates/press updates
Th' Faith Healers "Peel Sessions"
Coming out at the same time as Stereolab and PJ Harvery (with
both of whom they shared a record label as well as a previous Peel
Sessions compilation on Strange Fruit), Th' Faith Healers were a
gritty, noisy version of their peers but were no less revelatory.
Led by the meaty jangle of guitarist Tom Cullinan (Quickspace),
they played a type of neo-Krautrock minimalism but never forgot they
were a rock band. Songs could go on for over forty minutes, locking
into a groove, shifting and changing with subtlety, pummeling the
rhythm home with energy and force, yet remaining spontaneous and fun.
The songs on their three albums (the last two of which were released
in the U.S. on Elektra Records) are amongst the greatest of nineties
rock, avoiding the indulgences of the day and keeping chained to the
strength of the melody. "Reptile Smile," "Don't Jones Me," and
"Sparklingly Chime" maintained a constant energy throughout, thanks
to Joe Dilworth's steel-secure drumming style (Joe took over for
Ben Hopkin, who then switched to bass) and Roxanne Stephen's powerful
and charismatic vocal delivery.
Over the years, the band was asked five times to record sessions for
John Peel's innovative radio show. The first session was released in
the mid-nineties on the compilation listed above, but the others have
not been available until now.
Tour dates:
March 17th Austin TX Too Pure Daytime Showcase Ruta Maya with Volcano! Scout Niblett The Organ and The Rogers Sisters
March 22nd Boston MA PA's Lounge with Bright
March 27th Brooklyn NY Northsix
March 29th New York NY Mercury Lounge
March 30th Philadelphia PA Khyber with Nethers and The War On Drugs (members of The Capitol Years)
AP - "Of course, anything this amazing is always met with dumb looks and indifference" 5 out of 5
Blender - "The point isn't individual songs - it's the consistency and prickliness of the band's relentless, hypnotic roar." 3 1/2 out of 5
Village Voice - "There's still room in my dark little heart for Th' Faith Healers, for the mere reason they merged the dissident noise I loved as a young punker with the pop hooks that we all long for in our deepest dreams."
http://villagevoice.com/music/0611,rettman,72472,22.html
Stomp and Stammer - "Part of the awesome early Too Pure roster, the British quartet shared labelmate PJ Harvey's raw intensity and like Stereolab dabbled in the hypnotic power of repetition, swapping white-hot guitar for the latter's analog synths and French Bubblegum kitsch."
http://www.stompandstammer.com/index2.php?option=com_content&do_pdf=1&id=352
Drowned in Sound - "With a grubby power and lurching rock action permeating the 16 tracks of this release, there's a vitality here that captures a band in confident and edgy mode"
http://www.drownedinsound.com/release/view/7019
Pitchfork - "Never say die for a band that calls itself Th' Faith Healers. "
Big Takeover - "One of the early 1990's greatest exports (or imports here in America, these Brits) and pre-post rock purveyors."

Colossal Yes "Acapulco Roughs" updates
Utrillo Kushner from Comets on Fire challenges the notions of contemporary music with his latest project Colossal Yes. Piecing together classic piano ballads with more abrasive rock/psych instrumentations, he experiments with a concoction of old and new sounds, making the recording approachable yet challenging to the ears. Fans of Bill Fay and John Cale know how to appropriately kick back and let the music wash over you.
PRESS:
Rough Trade Album of the Week: "A fabulous album that keeps growing with repeated listens, say yes to the yes!"
200LB Underground: "I wept so hard that I was awoken a few hours later by my roommate shaking me conscious on the couch."
Other Music: " Pummeling and ferocious as a skin-pounder, Belcher unfurls his sensitive, plaintive, piano man side here, a-crooning and a-plinking on his debut as Colossal Yes. Not that he's Billy Joel; he instead reaches for that sacred mantle of folks like John Cale and Bill Fay--or more recently, Plush--to surprising success."

Cobra Verde on "The O.C."
Cobra Verde will make its prime-time network TV debut on Thursday, March 16 on Fox's "The O.C." The lovable rock iconoclasts from Cleveland will play a birthday party at The Bait Shop, the fictitious club where Adam Brody and Mischa Barton hang out in Orange County.
Cobra Verde isn't just another band making a gratuitous cameo, though. It also injects itself into a debate that overtakes the episode, titled "The Journey."
You see, the show's arena-rock-loving co-star Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie) really loves Journey. Seth (Brody) prefers slow dancing to Foreigner - which is why he hires Cobra Verde to don '80s "rockwear" and play Foreigner's slow-dance anthem, "Waiting for a Girl Like You."
"When 'The O.C.' asked us to be on the show, we had no idea it would be THAT song," says Cobra Verde singer and Screen Actor's Guild member John Petkovic. "It usually ends up on lists of songs we compile while we're driving around on tour - right up there with 'Come Sail Away' by Styx or 'Carry on My Wayward Son' by Kansas or 'Open Arms' by Journey."
"Journey usually wins the worst-of award," he adds. "Which is why we figured we'd step up and take a stand on the issue - even if it meant having to wear trench coats, mesh shirts and those ugly '80s boots."
Cobra Verde's version of "Waiting for a Girl Like You" will be available as a download, on iTunes. The band will also run a full diary of the experience at

New Lisa Germano (street date late June/early july)
We are all incredibly proud and pleased to announce that Young God Record will be releasing the new album by lisa germano in late June/early July '06. The album is titled "in the maybe world" . Her songs are impossibly poignant and often heartbreakingly
beautiful. No one sounds like her. You get the feeling you're walking through her dreams as you listen. The intensity of her singing is a little frightening sometimes - it's like she's singing very close to your ear, leading you through her world.
Here's a link to a sort of standard (yet nonetheless informative) music bio.
Lisa will be playing SXSW in Austin (if you're going to this thing, double check time and place, as this show was booked for Lisa at last minute):
Saturday, March 18 Eternal (418 E 6th St)
Lastly, Lisa will be doing a residency at Spaceland in LA on the following dates below. Admission is nominal. She's booked many of her friends as openers at each show ˆ should be a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
Spaceland: April 4, 11, 18 and 25.
In the maybe world - Lisa Germano, tracklisting as follows:
1. the day
2. too much space
3. moon in hell
4. golden cities
5. into oblivion
6. in the land of fairies
7. wire
8. in the maybe world
9. red thread
10. seed
11. except for the ghosts
12. after monday

The Octopus Project & Palaxy Tracks Join Forces
The Octopus Palaxy Project!
In one of the most unexpected displays of Peek-A-Boo Records incest to date, Palaxy Tracks frontman Brandon Durham will move back to Austin in March to join The Octopus Project, and in turn the Octopii will back him on the next Palaxy Tracks record.
The Octopus Project had been looking for a new guitarist while Palaxy Tracks was also undergoing line-up changes, and Brandon, slightly homesick for Austin, was seeking an excuse to leave Chicago.
Brandon reports, "I already have 12 songs for the next record and was thinking about working with other people. I was essentially gearing up to ask Josh [Lambert] if The Octopus Project would play on my next record. But instead, Josh asked me first."
Josh, one of The Octopus Project's three multi-instrumentalists, adds, "We're all incredibly excited. Brandon is a fantastic musician and a great person, and we couldn't be happier."
Palaxy Tracks will perform a few more shows in Chicago and Austin with the current members before Brandon relocates to Austin in time for SXSW and The Octopus Project's upcoming 60-date US tour.
Although sharing members, the two bands will remain distinct entities, and both will begin working on new albums for Peek-A-Boo Records this summer.

April 25th Street Date
Om "Conference Of The Birds" (April 25th)
Former members of riff-hypnotist legends SLEEP awaken as OM;
New album poised to further their reputation as musical innovators
beyond genre boundaries.
When the Bay Area sludge-metal trio Sleep broke up as result of its
tragically mishandled major-label debut Jerusalem -- a 52-minute,
single-song album now considered one of the most influential and innovative
records in metal history -- few would have predicted the band's split would
result in the lulling, droning and downright mantra-like duo Om. The
impeccable rhythm section of bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris
Hakius bring the same unhindered and unhinged creativity and knack for
catchy riffs of their former band to Om, and dash it with a truly compelling
mix of metal, chant, drone, dub and psychedelia. It's a sound that will
please indie hipsters, freak-folk pluckers and metalheads alike.
Taking its name from the repeated mantra of meditation, Om perfected its
sonic concoction with revered engineer Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Melvins, et al.)
for its forthcoming second Holy Mountain album,
Conference of the Birds upping the ante to a comparatively
sprawling two song full-length. Where its 2004 debut Variations On a Theme
(also recorded with Anderson) showed the duo's musical prowess,
Conference of the Birds proves that Om is poised to
remain musically innovative and break the mold of so-called "stoner rock"
conventions. The album is as much a beautifully entrancing meld of
Echoes-era Pink Floyd as it hints at influences ranging from Balinese
Gamelan to Black Sabbath and beyond. The band's lyrics expound
upon the structure of the universe, potentially and freedom from the physical body.
While it's true that the duo's former band made a dramatic impact on
underground music as a whole, Om isn't interested in talking about the past.
So, please, let it go. Om's debut album was released in February 2005 and
was an instant success and heralded as a triumphant return by Mr. Cisneros
who had not made any music publicly for many years. The underground
popularity of the band lead to exclusive live engagements in San Francisco,
Los Angeles, New York and London.
"Believe me when I say you could found a religion based on this sort of
music... truly transporting."
--Ninehertz UK
"This is one of the most immaculate, hypnotic and powerful albums I have
heard for many many years."
--David Tibet, Current 93
"Cisneros' trademark mantras, the duo's vice-tightness, and a fearsome
litany of riff after frequently groovy riff, induce a trance-like euphoria."
-- Terrorizer

JEL-RECORD RELEASE SHOWS IN LA, SF & NYC:
Jel (also of 13 & GOD, Themselves & Subtle), the head architect of Anticon’s aural acropolis, and co-collaborator with the likes of Mike Patton, Beck and Atmosphere, at long last offers up his true album-length debut: Soft Money. Jeffrey “Jel” Logan’s long-awaited magnum opus is sly dog of a disc born of ad-inspired paranoia, well-placed suspicion, and outright obsession where all things sound are concerned. Soft Money features guest appearances from Steffi Bohm of Ms. John Soda, and Wise Intelligent of Poor Righteous Teachers. In celebration of his new release, Jel, along with a host of friends and the help of The Onion and Filter Magazine, will be performing three exclusive record release shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City. See dates below!
WHAT THE PRESS HAS SAID ABOUT JEL:
"Jel is a talented producer, mining snippets of old records for the perfect sound on each song" STYLUS MAGAZINE
"Jel is helping to rewrite the hip-hop rulebook" ALTERNATIVE PRESS
"Jel is a high demand fellow, the bedrock of the anticon sound...with more than his share of funk, crackle, and pop" PITCHFORK
"The smoggy synths and heavy beats that permeate the music of Anticon acts Subtle and Themselves can be traced to Jel...songs pull you in with their gray, grim synth textures, a kind of sedative pall that's compelling in the right doses, as on the meditative penultimate track, "Nice Last." It's a heavy sound, but Jel knows how to give it a light touch.”

Jel
Jel "Soft Money" (February 28th)
Head architect of anticon's aural acropolis' new full-length album. Guest
Steffi Bohm of Ms. John Soda plays chanteuse on the dreamy
noir-hop of "All Around" while Poor Righteous Teachers'
Wise Intelligent drops wisdom on the anti-Bush, anti-bling diatribe
"WMD." Jel also gets stellar contributions from Parisian
synth-wizard HervÈ Salters (General Electrics), anticon
poet laureate Pedestrian, and cLOUDDEAD's Odd
Nosdam. With all of the above, Jel creates an ornate amalgam of
progressive hip-hop, electronic composition and musique concrËte.

Lanterna "Desert Ocean"
Desert Ocean is Lanterna's fifth album and their first on Badman's
new instrumental label Jemez Mountain. The band's previous
releases, Elm Street (2001), Sands (2002) and Highways
(2004) were passionately supported by NPR and the nationally
syndicated radio program Echoes (rising to Artist of the Month
status and a slot on the Echoes compilation CD).

Sparks/Not Alone compilation
Sparks "Hello Young Lovers"
On their incomparable new album, Sparks protest predictability,
obliterate the ordinary and demand utmost respect. Hello Young
Lovers is cinematic, bold, and lyrically liberal, with moments of
sheer beauty, dissonance and harmony. It may not win a Grammy, but an
Oscar's not out of the question. Never, never, has there been an
auditory assault of such magnitude presented in the realm of pop
music.
Various Artists-Not Alone (5CD benefit box set)
As previously reported, Tibet's label, Durtro, will release the Not
Alone benefit compilation for Doctors Without Borders
sometime this month through its Jnana imprint. The five-disc set
features unreleased music from Antony, Devendra Banhart, Vashti
Bunyan, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Thurston Moore, Jim O'Rourke, Damon and
Naomi, Teenage Fanclub, Matmos, Six Organs of Admittance, William
Basinski, Isobel Campbell, and many, many more.

Feathers/7 Year Rabbit Cycle/Innocence Mission & Wire re-issues
Field Music "s/t" (April 11th)
Hailing from Northeast England Field Music are comprised with core and guest
members from Futureheads and Maximo Park. First ever US
tour imminent including SXSW (3/15-16 @ Emo's). Features three bonus
tracks, a bonus video.
Feathers are an eight-piece collective musical ensemble, currently based
between Northampton, Massachusetts and Brattleboro, Vermont. Having
already issued two CD-Rs and the vinyl version of this album on their
own Feathers Family label, they're attracting gobs of attention from
fellow musicians and discerning music fans all over. It's only a
matter of time before they join contemporaries Devendra Banhart,
Espers, Joanna Newsom and Vetiver as a central power in
the freak-folk axis.
7 Year Rabbit Cycle "Ache Horns" (April 11th)
We have all heard that seemingly axiomatic phrase "supergroups
suck." 7 Year Rabbit Cycle may be a supergroup but they don't
suck. Guitarist Rob Fisk (who gets genuinely hot under the collar
when he hears the word "Bigfoot") was a founding member of
Deerhoof who not only co-wrote all of that band's material for
six years but also designed the artwork and created the group's
mythological identity. He also plays with Ben Chasny (Six Organs
of Admittance) in the improv-folk project Badgerlore.
Vocalist Kelly Goodefisk was also a member of Deerhoof circa
Holdypaws and exists as a not-so-shadowy presence in the Free
Porcupine Society. Drummer and percussionist Ches Smith has performed
with a who's who list of alt-improv legends including John Zorn,
Tom Waits, Fred Frith, Nels Cline, Wadada Leo Smith, and Mr.
Bungle. This guy can go from klanging with knitting needles ‡
la Sunny Murray to blanketing listeners in such powerful
rainstorms of thud that the ceiling should be checked for damage.
Also on board is past contributor turned full-fledged member Jamie
Stewart of Xiu Xiu on vocals and guitar.
Ache Horns, the band's third full-length, was recorded over a
six-month stretch of downtime in 2005 between tours. Imagine The
Ex trying to break up a fight between US Maple and
GodSpeed! You Black Emperor and you'll begin to fathom what
the band has achieved, thanks in large part to new members Stewart
and Smith and stellar contributions from guests George Chen
(K.I.T.), ambient noise artist Grouper and violist
George Behringer. 7 Year Rabbit Cycle will be touring the U.S.
with Grouper in Fall, 2006.
Innocence Mission "Birds of My Neighborhood" (April 11th)
Innocence Mission's fourth release, 1999's Birds Of My Neighborhood is
a set of more focused, expressive songs centered around the acoustic
guitars of Karen and Don Peris. The recording of this re-issue is so
sparse and intimate that it often sounds like a few close friends
strumming guitars around a fireplace, an approach that perfectly
frames the wistful sentiments expressed in the songs.
Wire "Pink Flag" "Chairs Missing" "154" (re-mastered) (April 11th)
Pink Flag Records proper CD release of Wire's first three late 70s
classics. The re-mastered albums have the same track listing, in the
same order as the original vinyl releases are are presented in
digipack replicas of the original vinyl sleeves with a 12-page
booklet detailing the story of each album illustrated by previously
unseen photos.

Vetiver new release May 15th st date
Vetiver "To Find Me Gone" (May 15th)
Following a long string of ecstactically received live dates with Devendra
Banhart and Joanna Newsom and others, the second full-length appears.
The album features eleven songs (50-plus minutes) on the CD and thirteen
songs on the double vinyl. Guest players and band members include Alissa Anderson,
Devendra, Kevin Barker, Otto Hauser, Bright Black and Farmer member
Dave Scherr, with Thom Monahan once again producing.
Vetiver grows in a "less is more" chaparral where simplicity offers ample
room to wander. Strongly fertilized by traditional acoustic music,
and more subtly cross-pollinated by the sparseness of "minimalism,"
with its bare suggestions of melodies that the listener fills in for
himself, Vetiver gracefully navigates folk and pop savannas with
ease.

Current 93 (multiple releases, multiple dates)
"Current 93 to Flood Market in 2006" -www.Pitchforkmedia.com
February 2006
To say that Current 93 fans should start saving their pennies is an
understatement. With all the material David Tibet is set to unleash
this year, you want to consider taking out a second mortgage, dipping
into the kids' college fund, or selling that eighteenth-century
dragon skull mounted on the wall.
As previously reported, Tibet's label, Durtro, will release the Not

sometime this month through its Jnana imprint. The five-disc set
features unreleased music from Antony, Devendra Banhart, Vashti
Bunyan, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Thurston Moore, Jim O'Rourke, Damon and

Basinski, Isobel Campbell, and many, many more. But that's just the
beginning, according to recent updates on the Durtro website
