After repeated listenings, I’ve realized it’s necessary for me to highlight the Nick Grey album (listed first, above). The track “Montréal (Vue Aérienne) ” is my favorite song this year; it’s the sort of thing I force friends to listen to on headphones. I wish I could post an MP3 of the song here (and I may do so soon if I can get permission*).
I don’t often rave about albums anymore, but if I still wrote about music I’d easily come up with a page or three of reasons why people should buy Thieves Among Thorns. Luckily, Julian Cope has taken a lot of the words out of my mouth.

Today I celebrated New Year’s Eve by exploring the hiking trails near from my home. The photo above is from that walk. More pictures (including others shot on the new iPhone) can be found on the Flickr page.

Appleseed: Ex Machina

In March 2008 the sequel to 2004′s Appleseed will be released (hard-to-read webpage with embedded trailer here).

The original is my favorite anime film. John Woo supervised the story and action sequences on Ex Machina. The music supervisor is an ex-YMO/Sketch Show hero of mine, Haruomi Hosono. Nothing but good news.
Amazon is offering four versions of the DVD, not including the teaser video game that Sega released in spring ’07.

CNN: The Most Important Name In Ghouls

MSNBC and CNN are running repeated coverage of the 911 calls during the Omaha mall shootings. True to form, both outlets are wallowing in horror and pandering to the voyeurism and fears of a lot of sick, obsessed viewers.
The guy who shot those people wanted to be famous, and cable news has played itself right into his pathology.
This isn’t news. It’s a senseless, ratings-hungry parade of pain and death and suffering, masquerading as a human interest story. I’m sure Anderson Cooper will rise to the occasion.
