Just had to send an alternate gmail address to over 3000 email contacts. Klassy!

Speakeasy’s Extended “Issues” with Email Delivery

Today I noticed that most of my incoming email was date-stamped up to eight hours before I received it.

Actually, it’s now 3:30am and I just got an email from my girlfriend that was sent at 3:30pm yesterday.

I checked Speakeasy’s system status and no problems were being reported. I opened a support ticket on Speakeasy’s site at 10:45 last night and got this answer back within 20 minutes:

This is a known issue that is being resolved. As the server back logs are being cleared expect emails to continue trickling in. Currently, we expect the server backlog to clear in the next few hours. No emails have been lost, but as you’ve noticed, there have been some delays.

Yeah, I noticed. Nearly all my work email (and that of 20 employees at our office) was similarly delayed on a very, very busy Monday…and still showing up in my inbox up to 12 hours late on the following Tuesday. Speakeasy’s system status box still reports no problems.

It’s times like this when (again) I wonder if it’s prudent to have a company owned by Best Buy as your ISP.

Want.

I bought a glossy 15″ MacBook Pro last Fall. The only regret I have is the non-matte screen. I spend a lot of time on photo editing and the glossy/glassy screen makes the colors lickable, but isn’t good for color correction. I actually resort to plugging the 15″ laptop into an eight-year-old Viewsonic G810 when I feel Photoshop calling.
The new 17 inch MacBook Pro is very, very, very tempting, though. Up until yesterday I was seriously considering buying one primarily for Slingboxing TiVo from the living room to the bedroom. But I came to my senses, and the cheaper alternative will arrive tomorrow. Full report soon.
Which is not to say I still don’t crave some 17″ non-glossy OS X goodness, of course.

Good to see so much old Genesis represented (and Gentle Giant!), but what, no “Rain Song”?

It’s actually too late for the music industry to evolve, but it’s an endearing concept.

Streaming Radio

I’ve reactivated Nicecast streaming. An older Mac laptop is hooked up to a 275 gig hard drive full of AACs and MP3s. It’s feeding an iTunes app set on “shuffle.”
The URL is http://limahuli.dnsalias.com:8000/listen.m3u
I’ll keep this running until a) I get bored with it, b) the laptop overheats, or c) the RIAA and/or Comcast come through the door with billyclubs. Enjoy.
[update 12/3/08: Due to overwhelming apathy, I've temporarily discontinued the Nicecast stream unless folks email me and apologize for having something better to do, you unsupportive sloths].

[update: sorry, stream has been discontinued for the time being...]
